In Burma a young man is expected by his family to enter the monastery for a short period of time, sometimes more than once, to study the Tipitaka, the sacred scriptures pertaining to the rules, regulations, and principles taught by the Buddha (Tipitaka in Pali “Ti” meaning three and “Pitaka” baskets).
