An impressive Burmese Gilded Amarapura Wood Buddha Statue seated on high stepped thin waisted, three-tiered pedestal, with hand gesture in bhumisparsa mudra also referred to as “touching earth mudra”, with the five fingers on the right hand extended downwards to touch the earth, symbolizing the moment of the Buddha’s enlightenment.
Thayo lacquer floral scrolls and glass mosaics decorate the throne and robe. The face shows a beautiful, serene expression with eyes lowered and a slight smile. Age-related wear to the gilding and lacquer.
The hole in the lower base of the pedestal at the back would indicate that this was once a relic chamber that would have held some form of Buddhist relic, now empty. The robe draped over the right shoulder is a style that became popular during the Pinya period.
